Are You Following Your Dreams? Here’s 5 Questions to Ask Yourself

  • by Hugh Forbes

I think it’s safe to say, from time to time, we all pause and reflect on the life in front of us. Are we happy with what we see? Are we following a dream we had when we were little? Do we fill fulfilled? All of these existential thoughts are things that cross our minds, and there’s no way to deny it; it’s part of being human. That’s because as a human, we have a soul, and we need that soul to feel full and nourished.

Only by following your dreams will you live a life with purpose. Here are 5 questions to ask yourself to determine if you are living that life:

  1. Am I Happy?

This is a big question, and it’s certainly hard to answer. There are many factors that go into someone feeling happiness, entirely innate to them. If you immediately want to say “no” to this answer, then it’s safe to assume you are not following your dreams; you are instead following someone else’s dreams. Only you have your purpose; it’s time to identify what that is.

  1. Do You Feel Content with Your Job?

Every job is hard, and every job has its poor moments. But would you say, on average, you feel content with your job? Or, do you absolutely hate it? If you feel your job is in-line with your values and where you want to see yourself in 10-years, then that’s a good sign. But if you feel like it goes against everything you stand for, every single day, then maybe it’s time to walk away.

  1. Do You Sleep Well at Night?

When we do what we’re supposed to do, we are able to drift off into a deeper slumber at night, feeling nourished from our daily activities. If you lie awake at night, bothered by your life, your job, your boss, or your career, chances are, you are not following your dreams.

  1. Do You Feel Excited When You Wake Up?

Immediately upon waking up, what do you feel? Do you jump right out of bed, ready to take on the day? Or do you lay there as long as possible, hoping to avoid what looms in front of you? When we’re following our dreams, we can’t wait to continue following them.

  1. Are You Lifting Other People Up?

All of our dreams end in the betterment of ourselves, society, and the people around us. Dreams are positive things. Are you lifting people up every day? Are you a positive person that people look forward to meeting? Are you doing something to make the world a better place? If you feel this kind of social element is lacking from your day to day, then you are off-track with your dreams and future.

It’s ok to be out-of-line with your destiny; it happens to all of us. Here are just a few questions that show you how to follow your dreams. All you have to do is make the decision to start today!
